2023 is fast approaching, and since it seems like a blink ago that 2022 just began, it is safe to say that the new year will be here before we know it. New year resolutions start to pass through our mind, as we think about what we would like the new year to look like, and many of those resolutions globally feature something about health.
Health is the only thing we truly have (or don’t have), so it makes sense that we are on a never-ending quest to find what is best for us and what can make our quality of life a little better.
So, with that being said, this piece is going to take a look at a few trends that may help us improve our health next year, and what we can expect to see. Let’s get into it.
1) A Focus on the Mind
The state of our mental health has become a top topic over the past couple of years, with a little helping hand from the pandemic, of course, and now it seems to be a significant focus when it comes to our overall health – and rightly so.
The mind and body are intrinsically connected, which means that if the mind is hurting, it can affect the body significantly. For example, those that suffer from depression can also find that their body becomes fatigued or suffers from aches, which influence weight changes. It can also have a direct impact on your organs.
Combining a focus on making sure that the mind is well, along with the body, is an essential part of overall health. Expect to see a lot more focus on mindfulness (though it is important to note that this does not work for everyone), therapy techniques, grounding, gratitude, and taking mental health days when you need them. Stress is a real issue for our health, and the western world has been set up to make sure you are ‘doing the most’. It is time to slow down.
2) Health Data
It was only a matter of time before technology started taking over the health and wellness industry, and the way we can collect data on ourselves is as sophisticated as it has ever been. With apps and objects that can help us track how we sleep, our heart rate, our pulse, our blood sugar, and how physically fit we are for our age, to name a few, we are getting more insight than we ever dreamed of delivered to our phones daily.
This should always be used as a guide, rather than as gospel, if not for the one reason that obsessing over something is the very definition of unhealthy.
That being said, if you do find that there are issues, the sooner you are aware of them, the faster you can take action. For example, if you find you are overweight and it is affecting your health, then you can consider following a nutritionist-recommended plan, but also take advantage of the latest fat loss technology, such as CoolSculpting Elite Austin, which can help freeze away excess fat without surgery.
3) Circadian Health
There has been a big focus on sleep recently, and many people have an opinion on it. However, the truth of the matter is that we still do not know a lot about sleep. One thing is for certain – we need it, and we need enough of it, but much of everything else is speculative.
Circadian rhythms and patterns do appear to play an important part in our lives. Anyone who is a night owl trying to rise early in the morning will know that. Not only that, but we know that REM sleep is crucial to rest and understanding our patterns of how we obtain it and what can disrupt it will most likely stay a key focal point next year.
We all know what it is like to be completely exhausted and not be able to sleep. Many of us have probably thought to ourselves what a dream it would be to be able to plug a charger into ourselves and get some juice. So, expect to see a lot more movement on what we can do to achieve a better quality of sleep.
In the meantime, a focus on non-alcoholic drinks, a better mattress, the right temperature, and consuming foods that interact with the neurotransmitters that have a role in sleep can all help improve your slumber.
4) Spiritual Wellness and Healing
Spiritual wellness and healing have taken a more prized place in health with the general public, especially the younger generation, who are open to and have access to learn about almost anything at their fingertips. Whether it is crystals, religion, angel numbers, or herbs, there is a plethora of different mediums in which someone can explore a new approach to wellness.
Now, more and more people have a much clearer idea of the connection between the mind and body, so it only makes sense that people turn inward for understanding how they can heal in their way. Holistic and naturopathic approaches and treatments are nothing new, but as the understanding and research grow, more and more people are looking to reach higher vibrations and gain more insight into core principles, their emotions, their outlook on life, and how they can shift them for the better.
5) Sexual Wellness
Sexual wellness, which has seemingly been a hush-hush topic for the past decade or so, is starting to come out of its shell again. This is an important step, as our sexual health can very much contribute to our overall health and happiness.
More and more brands and companies are coming out with products and services that aid our sexual wellness, and slowly but surely, we are all becoming much more open to talking about it with each other.
Whether you want to get to know your body better, feel more confident in your sex life, or want to connect with your partner, there is something for everyone.
