Maling af dørkarme and is not a complicated task. However, it needs careful preparation and patience on your part. These steps will help you achieve a professional and clean finish.

To prepare and paint, you will need the following

  • Sandpaper
  • Wood filler
  • Filling knife
  • Electric sander
  • Paintbrushes
  • Dust sheets
  • Masking tape
  • Soap or detergent
  • Bucket
  • Clean cloth
  • Sponge
  • Water-based wood primer
  • Paint

Prepare your door frame

Painting the door frame is not difficult, but you can save time by covering all the important furnishings with a dust cover. You can use masking tape for smaller regions. Before you start painting:

  1. Make sure the frame is clean and smooth.
  2. Repair any holes or cracks first.
  3. Apply wood filler to fill in the gaps. If there is black rot, sand it out and fill in the holes.

Once the filler and raisin have dried up, wipe the old paint job with a soapy water-soaked Sponge. Dry the frame with a clean cloth. Remove any flaking paint with Sandpaper and sand the area. Apply the wood primer to all the bare regions of the wood. Take care to cover all the crevices as well as moldings. Leave the primer to dry.

Now you should start applying the Paint. Check the Paint label and understand whether you need to use two coats, a top coat, and an undercoat or if only one coat would be enough. Start by applying the Paint in a horizontal direction. Following this, draw the paintbrush along with the frame. Make sure to paint in the grain direction. If you notice that the original color of the frame is showing despite you finishing the first coat, allow the coat to dry completely and then apply a second coat on top. When you are painting, make sure that you do not use a very thick coat. This will result in a very uneven finish, and the door frame will not look good.

Ensure a good finish

When you load your paintbrush, dip the upper third of the bristles into the can of the Paint. Pull the paintbrush slowly over the lip of the Paint can. This will remove any excess paint and prevent the dripping of the Paint on the floor. Apply a small quantity of Paint at once. Applying a lot of Paint will lead to dripping, and you will notice brush marks on the finish.

If, for any unforeseen reason, you have to stop work for some time, do not let the paintbrushes get exposed to the air. Put the brushes in a jar of water. This will prevent the Paint from going hard on the bristles and damaging the bristles. When ready to start the job again, dry off the water with tissue paper and start.
