Out of millions of students appearing for competitive exams in India, approximately 15 lakhs appear for the JEE Main entrance exam. This article is about preparing for the JEE exam. As of now students who are at the end of 10th std and dream about going to IIT take up early coaching classes, some of them take integrated coaching classes/tuitions in private institutes to level up their preparation for JEE.

The first most important thing in the preparation of JEE is to complete the NCERT textbooks and have full concentration on completion of JEE Main syllabus with the help of JEE Study Material, to qualify for the exam it is important to finish studying the NCERTs. The second most important thing in preparation is that the aspirant should always take up a test series or mock tests. Mock tests play an important role in enhancing the time limit taken by the student for solving the questions efficiently. The exam is for a total of 360 marks where each subject is for 120. Students can score more marks in the subject they’re really good at, it can secure them a good rank.

Sometimes studying for competitive exams can be draining/hectic, and students start taking stress, have anxiety or lack of sleep, or cut down social media to get full focus on the exam preparation. But, it is important to take things easy. Some of the tips to have focus on include always having a water bottle with you. To start with the preparation it would be difficult/impossible to study continuously for 7-8hrs Therefore students can use the Pomodoro method. Sometimes it can happen when due to nervousness/anxiety students tend to make mistakes while solving the problems. It can be improved by taking multiple test series for the preparation as they would get to know where the mistakes have been made.

General things that one should always keep in mind while preparing for JEE:

Physics:

Students often try to memorize the formula rather than understanding the concept theory, but understanding is very important because 90% of the time formula used in JEE preparation can be derived in seconds and if there is a derivation from a basic problem the student would be able to solve it easily. And the formulas which can’t be derived need to be memorized, and this can only happen with enough practice.

Math: make a formula sheet, this can be done for other subjects too. For math there’s not much to say, only practising can make it possible. Half of the maths paper is based on calculus or algebra. This can fetch good marks

Chemistry:

This subject requires a lot of by-hearting. Coming to the consequences of ignoring topics, the aspirants who don’t clear their doubts can be in trouble. Clear your doubts from the teacher. As soon as the topic starts make sure you can hold on to it.

Don’t solve too many books, there are a few standard books (coaching sheets, NCERT, past year papers, etc) and just use a few for reference.

Make sure to always track your progress, to know your weak and strong points. Know where you are standing. Once you have the statistics in your hand, you know where to improve your learning process and achieve a greater peak of success.

On the day of the exam:

First of all, the paper may seem difficult at first glance to a lot of students but it is not in general. So keep calm.

There is no general rule which subjects to start with but one must go with the subject one is confident about. A word of caution for Physics enthusiasts in JEE Mains -Physics is rather a bit tricky. Generally, toppers opt for Chemistry as it helps in managing time for Physics and Maths.

For the one who has balanced PCM, it is suggested CMP(chemistry, math, physics ) is a good choice for order.

Starting with your strong subjects could give you some sort of boost as in initial hours concentration is a bit low. So target easy questions first. One way to do a paper could be just going through all of the questions sequence-wise, solving them, and marking the questions which could possibly consume a lot of time. You may skip those questions and go through them after going off through the whole of the paper. Try to remain calm even if it gets terrifying. At the end of the day they are just a series of questions (just relax a bit 10-15 seconds)

Study plan for last 1-2 months

Make a schedule for yourself. Only the list of subjects you want to everyday

Make a list of the daily goals for the next day before you go to bed or schedule your day right after waking up.

Adopt a fun method of your own, this is the most important thing that can be done in the last few months of main preparation, anything is suitable. Any extracurricular activity can help you have a great focus. Mindset is the most important thing as it raises the toppers onto a different level. Always stay refreshed mentally.

Last week preparation:

Although revision is important, don’t start with any new topics. Instead, go over the main syllabus and ensure that you aren’t missing out on important topics such as Electromagnetic waves, Semiconductors, Ray optics, Heat and thermodynamics from physics. Go through past years’ papers and get an understanding of the level of questions.

On the D-Day: stay cool and focused, there are always more attempts. Enjoy solving the exam and be confident. Also remember, be calm, as it will help you write all your answers correctly.
