Is a bathroom renovation hard?
The difficulty will depend on how extensive you want to make your renovation. The good news is the contractor you hire for the renovation already knows how to handle things. A good contractor can make the process a breeze!
Check out these easy steps for a bright and beautiful bathroom renovation.
1. Make a Plan
You wouldn’t build a house without plans and you shouldn’t renovate a bathroom without them either.
Consider the vibe you want for your bathroom. Should it feel rustic or modern, minimalist or elaborate, dark or light?
Capitalize on what’s already there to keep your budget in check. But don’t feel limited either. You can move walls, enlarge the space, have the toilet and shower trade spaces, etc. (Just be aware you might need permits for some of those things).
2. Discuss with Your Contractor
Do you want your bathroom renovation made easy? Then, it’s critical to hire an experienced, honest, contractor in your area.
Go over your plans with your contractor. They can offer suggestions as well as let you know what won’t work.
3. Let the Work Begin
If you get a good contractor, you don’t have to be on top of them every second. Furthermore, they have more experience than you and will solve problems before they begin.
Once your contractor understands your vision for your new bathroom, they will get to work. This usually begins with demolition, removing any elements you no longer need.
Make sure you tell your contractor you want to reuse any pieces possible. This will both save money as well as cut down on waste.
4. Electrical and Plumbing
Once all the old items are out of the way, it’s time to rough in any new wires or pipes needed for the new fixtures. The plumber and electrician should also inspect the existing systems and make replacements as needed.
If you want to include heated floors (an excellent addition to a bathroom), the system should be installed at this point.
5. Plasterboard
When the rough-ins are finished, it’s time to close up the walls once more with plasterboard. It’s important to waterproof your walls in the bathroom along with having adequate ventilation.
6. Tile
Many homeowners choose tile in some capacity in their bathrooms. It may serve as the floor, decorate parts of the walls, line the shower, or all three!
Tile seems easy to install, and it is, but there are a few things that must be done correctly to ensure no water problems later on.
7. Install Fixtures
When the new fixtures start going in, it starts to look like a bathroom once more! All the plumbing fixtures go in such as a new toilet or shower stall along with new task lighting or other electrical fixtures. New cabinets or your refreshed old cabinets also go in.
Sit Back and Relax in Your New Bathroom
It sounds like a lot of work to renovate a bathroom. However, the right contractor makes the process quite simple. You just let them know how you want your bathroom to look and they make it happen!
