Who hasn’t wished they could postpone their period while on vacation? And who wouldn’t want to postpone it a little longer to avoid companion symptoms like breast tenderness and bloating during a large occasion?

If you do a Google search for methods to naturally slow your period, you’ll find several suggestions, including exercise and drinking vinegary water. But are any of them effective? Nothing is more effective than period delay treatments made by the experts!

We investigated the literature on naturally delaying a period start, and we broke down the methods that might work — because they’re based in science — as well as those that won’t.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been promoted as a magic cure for acne, heartburn, and even belly fat.

Some of the treatments on this list have been proved to work, while others have not. As a result, it’s no surprise that ACV is marketed as a panacea for menstrual problems like discomfort and bloating.

However, there is no evidence to suggest that ACV can delay your menstrual cycle. There’s simply been no researchTrusted Source. ACV has been shown in at least one double-blind, placebo-controlled study to have a beneficial impact on menstruation in women with the polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

However, according to this research, ACV may induce menstruation in women who haven’t had regular reproductive cycles as a result of blood sugar and hormonal imbalances. There’s no indication that ACV will stop for a period.

Apple cider vinegar has the potential to damage your teeth and delicate tissues of the mouth and throat if taken frequently.

It isn’t recommended that you drink ACV straight from the bottle. To make it safer and more appealing, dilute it with water or another liquid.

Gram lentils

According to anecdotal evidence, eating gram lentils on the days before your period may delay it. According to these claims, you should fry the lentils until soft and then grind them into a powder using a spice or coffee grinder. You may also simply buy gram lentil flour, which you can use to make smoothies or soups.

There’s no evidence to support it, however, the increased fibre might irritate your stomach, and cause bloating and extra flatulence.

Lemon juice

Lemon juice, like apple cider vinegar, is a highly acidic substance. It’s unclear why lemon juice has been shown to help stop bleeding in studies. There’s no evidence to support it, either.

Furthermore, acid-rich meals might irritate your teeth, gums, mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines. If you do this approach, dilute the lemon with a glass of water or unsweetened tea.

Gelatin

Dissolving gelatin in warm water and drinking it is supposed to extend the start of your period by about four hours. You’ll have to keep doing the gelatin treatment if you want a longer respite.

There’s no clear reason why gelatin is touted as a natural way to avoid your period starting, and there’s no evidence to back it up. It’s possible that drinking a lot of gelatin has some side effects, such as bloating or upset stomach.

Exercise

Excess exercise can push the start of a period back by a day or two. People who engage in high physical activity or exertion on the days preceding their periods may notice that it does not begin on time.

Low-energy availability could be to blame. When your body has burned up a lot of energy during exercise and recovery, it might not have enough energy reserves to complete the menstrual cycle.
